Giroux theroy

Giroux Theory (1997) Representation of youth Giroux views show how the youth are mistreated within media. Describing them as an empty category explains that adults don’t understand what it is like to be a youth in this generation. Therefore they just but their own ideas into this empty space of what they believe their representation is. The effects Media involving just adults therefore greatly effects these representations. The adults do not want their generation to look bad therefore uses teenagers as a scapegoat. The role of media representations in society By looking at this theory we are able to see that the representation of youth is moulded together through what adults believe and think. This then leads to uprising of stereotypes through the media and also cause moral panics. When all of this has just been created through hegemony and the media raining down their ideas.

Acland theory

Acland theories represents youth as being delinquent and this enhances hegemony. This is done by the ideal of ‘norm’ adult and youth behaviour. This contrasts deviant youth behaviour. Representation of media He believes that the way the media represents of young people allows the state to control them. This is known as the ‘ideology of protection’ idea that youths need to be constantly watched. Effects of these representations Acland’s theory effects the representations as the adults see youth as all being reckless and they have to keep enforcing that these actions are bad. This si to enforce the hegemony of how they should not behave when they reach adulthood. This means that there will be more negative stories about youth in the media.

Hebdige Theory

Dick Hebdige Dick Hebdige is a British media theorist and sociologist, and a Professor of Art and Media Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His work is commonly associated with the study of subcultures, and its resistance against the mainstream of society. His current research interests include media topographies, desert studies, and performative criticism. Hebdige has written extensively on contemporary art, design, media and cultural studies, on mod style. What is his theory   The Hebidge theory comes out of Dick Hebdige’s book Subculture: The meaning of style. The book focuses on the UK’S youth subcultures. Drawing from Marxist theorists, literary critics, French structuralists, and American sociologists, Hebdige presents a model for analysing youth subcultures. While Hebdige argues that each subculture undergoes the same trajectory, he outlines the individual style differences of specific subcultures, such as Teddy boys, mods, rockers, skinheads, and punk

Mods and Rockers

Image
Mods and rockers What are mods? Mod is a type of people that really came to the fore front of culture is the 1950’s. They were the first set of teenagers after the Second World War and were therefore the first generation with a disposable income and could afford to go out and drink and do drugs. Mods had a very iconic fashion sense that consisted of tailored suits usually based on Italian style, short slick haircuts, and they drive around on scooters like vespers and lambretta. They get a lot of their ideas from Europe. Traditionally mods were working class people living on housing estates and working in factories or coal mines. What are rockers? Rockers like mods were a subculture that got massive in the 1950’s but they were very different to mods in nearly every single way. Rockers wore biker boots, leather jackets, and jeans and traditionally rode proper motorbikes. Rockers were also working class but spent their money on different things. There was also a rivalry bet

AS Media Evaluation

Image
AS Media Studies evaluation In the following paragraphs I will be looking at mine, Jack, Ellis and Raffy’s final AS Media production and evaluating it and looking at ways in which I believe we can progress but also things I believe we did well at that the viewers liked about the opining clip of For Family. The first thing that came up when we asked the viewers about For Family is that they liked the location switch and the fact that we went from Oxford to Woodstock but we managed to make it look like they were right next to each other and there wasn’t a clear switch of location because both the places looked similar. This took a lot of time to get perfect because we needed to make sure that the weather was the same because we filmed the clips on different days. The second area that a lot of people picked up and liked was the point of view camera shot right at the end of the opening sequence. The shot is from my point of view as I have to gun pointed at me. This clip didn’t actua

A Taste Of Honey

A taste of honey Overview A taste of honey is British TV drama that brings into account class, race, gender and sexuality as there is characters that are all very different. It is set in Salford Manchester in north west England.   Characters Jo- Jo is main character in a taste of honey. In the relationship that Jo has with her mother we see Jo betrayed as the adult in the relationship. Because of how childish the Jo’s mother is she can never afford to live in one place for a long stretch of time so as a result Jo never really has settled home for any long period of time. Helen- Helen is Jo’s mother. She is unmarried and to have child and be unmarried at that time was frowned upon. Ellen during the film is seen with a black boyfriend call

results from the production ideas questionnaire

Image
The questionnaire that we produced to find out what people wanted consisted of just 1 question and that was, what would you rather watch a documentary on the Life Of A Football or a music video and the results were quite one sided. Out of the 10 results that we got 7 people said they would rather watch a documentary and 3 people said that they would rather watch a music video. These results even though we didn’t get as many answers as we wanted were still very one sided and because of this it had made us decide that we are going to do a documentary about a football hooligan for our production.

Potential ideas

We have recently been given the options for our A2 Media Production. Out of all of the options we have, we have Narrowed it down to 2 ideas, we will either be doing a music video or a documented about the life of a football hooligan. we are going to put a questionnaire on social media asking people what they would rather see and then decide from there depending on what the majority of people want.

A2 Production briefs

There are a number of briefs to choose from in A2 and in this post I will be talking about which ones I could potentially use for my A2 production The first brief that has caught my eye and one that I am thinking of using is ' A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the three options; a website homepage for the band, a cover for its release on DVD, and/or a magazine advertisement for the DVD'. This brief would be a lot different from the one I did in AS and would allow me to access a range of different skills I was not able to access in AS due to the brief. There are a lot of different ways a music video can be created and made and it would be a lot of fun working with people to create a good quality one.  Music is a big part of my life along with the majority of people so it would be easy to find a track right for the theme I aim aiming for as there is a variety of choice to choose from. I would have to listen
